I had an awkward moment about a month ago. Actually, it was an awkward two weeks when I thought that Improvarama had a gig for a local Boulder charity. We started gathering the talent. We put out ideas and were ready to begin rehearsal, when the sponsor emailed me that they had had a change in direction and were going with a friend of the event's director (or something like that). Boo.
No gig.
So here's what I've learned from that. Before you put an ounce of work into a project for someone, get a written agreement. It doesn't have to be a twenty page contract (and who would read that anyway?). One page (even one-half page) will do. But get it in writing.
At least that's how I feel today.
What's your experience?
